Jan 30 The Known World by Edward P. Jones

I know that this book won a Pulitzer Prize which is ostensibly for the writing, I found the story more engaging and unusual that the writing. I never knew the story of black slave owners in the Southern USA and that is the story that The Known World tells. Hi characters are interesting and real and I found the reality of how deep slavery ran – deep enough to even allow blacks to own other blacks – the most astounding. The books certainly tells a richly detailed and perhaps lesser known part of history and that things are certainly not as “black and white” as they may seem.
