Jan 26 Drinking Coffee Elsewhere by ZZ Packer

For all the hype that ZZ Packer’s book Drinking Coffee Elsewhere got, I honestly expected to enjoy it more. It really bother me when a novelist/writer is so well respected and talked about and then I’m not blown away by the work. She is definitely a talented storyteller and her writing is excellent, but I feel that in her case it is more the perspective she is offering on the world than the language she uses that is what people are attracted to. I really feel bad that I didn’t love this collection of short stories. Maybe part of it is that I’m not really a fan of short stories. Maybe I would like her work better in novel form? Anyhow, I was disappointed.
