Jan 29 The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry

I had been wanting to read The Lace Reader: A Novel for a very long time. We went a way for the weekend and I finally got my chance. I read the book almost in one sitting! This is a fabulous story about the city of Salem and its history – the town’s association with witches (who are mostly fake and never really existed) and the very real family of women who can tell a fortune by “reading” lace – like you would read a palm or tarot cards. Though I did find the ending a bit confusing, it certainly took me by surprise and the journey of reading the book – the descriptions, the language, the personalities and people described, were all equally as interesting as the plot. Can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next!
